Is it time you turned to cosmetic dentistry in Sun Prairie, WI, to get the smile you want?

Have you always envied a friend or a Hollywood actor because they have the perfect smile? Instead of sitting around envious, it’s important to understand that many people aren’t born with these ideal smiles—often times, perfect smiles are made. Are you ready to find out how our Sun Prairie, WI, cosmetic dentist Dr. R.J. Carpenter can help you feel more confident in your appearance?

What is cosmetic dentistry?

If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “I really wish my smile was whiter” or “I hate that my front teeth are just a little crooked” then you’ve been wishing for cosmetic dentistry without even realizing it. Cosmetic dentistry uses a variety of different materials and techniques in order to enhance, alter, and improve the overall look of your smile.

Cosmetic dentistry can handle everything from more minor flaws to serious and widespread aesthetic issues. You may only require one type of cosmetic dentistry to achieve the smile you want, while others may require several different kinds of cosmetic treatments. This is something our Sun Prairie, WI, dentist will discuss with you during your consultation.

What are my cosmetic dentistry options?

There are many different kinds of cosmetic options from which to choose, but for now we are going to talk about the top cosmetic treatments:

Teeth Whitening

Does your smile lack the brightness and vibrancy that it once had? Have years of drinking coffee or tea caused dental stains? If so, professional in-office teeth whitening can get your smile several shades whiter, often in just a single one-hour whitening session.

Dental Bonding

Do you have a slight chip in your front tooth? Do you have a small discoloration that teeth whitening can’t fix? If so, dental bonding may be the simple and easy solution you need to alter your smile for the better. Bonding uses a tooth-colored material that is applied and shaped over the imperfection. Once shaped, the resin is hardened into place with a dental laser. It’s completely quick, painless, and non-invasive.

Porcelain Veneers

Sometimes the flaws you have are more widespread or there are several issues that you want to fix. In this case, the best option might be porcelain veneers. These mega-thin porcelain layers are bonded to the front of your teeth to cover multiple issues and to completely reshape and improve your smile.

Here in Sun Prairie, WI, our dental team is dedicated to providing you with the general, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry your entire family needs to maintain healthy, beautiful smiles. Interested in getting cosmetic dentistry? Then call us today at (608) 837-5527 for an appointment!

Cosmetic DentistryFor some people, a big, beautiful smile is second to none in terms of looking and feeling great. However, achieving this goal often requires the help and expertise of your cosmetic dentist. With the vast amount of options when it comes to cosmetic dentistry procedures, you may feel overwhelmed choosing the best procedures for you and your needs. However, your dentist is here to help you investigate further into cosmetic dentistry, understand your options, and choose the right procedure for you. Find out more about cosmetic dentistry and its common procedures with Dr. R.J. Carpenter in Sun Prairie, WI.

Common Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures in Sun Prairie

  • Crowns and Bridges: A dental crown fits over a tooth to protect and stabilize it while changing its appearance. A dental bridge fills the gap between two teeth by anchoring into place with dental crowns.
  • Porcelain Veneers: Dental veneers cover the teeth to change their appearance. Made from porcelain, these restorations can change the shape, size, length, width, color, and overall appearance of the tooth, making them a powerful tool in a smile makeover.
  • Bonding and Contouring: Dental bonding and contouring use bonding resin placed directly onto the tooth to repair small damages and imperfections. Then a dental drill with various bits allows your dentist to contour the resin into the correct shape. Most often used to repair chipped teeth, bonding is an inexpensive and faster alternative to other cosmetic procedures.
  • Orthodontic Treatment: Orthodontics, which includes traditional metal and ceramic braces and other options like plastic aligner trays, move the teeth into new, straightened positions. Orthodontic care also addresses bite issues which could affect chewing and even speaking.
  • Teeth Whitening: Teeth whitening, which takes only about an hour, can pack a big punch without requiring much time or effort in the process. Whitening procedures, which occur at your dentist’s office, give you the option of subtly lightening your teeth or undergoing more intensive treatment to achieve a brighter, whiter smile. Your dentist can help you choose the best level of whitening for you and your teeth.

Whether restorative or cosmetic, we offer the services to meet your needs.restorative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry

Our Sun Prairie, WI, dentist, Dr. R.J. Carpenter, wants you to have the smile you’ve always wanted and it’s now easier than ever thanks to all the wonderful advancements in dental technology. Regardless of whether you are dealing with a weak, damaged tooth or you want to improve the color or shape of your smile, we have the treatment you’ve been looking for.

Root Canal Therapy

That nagging toothache may just be trying to tell you that you are dealing with a damaged dental pulp. When this happens, the pulp will need to be removed in order to preserve the rest of the tooth. Decay, infection or trauma can also impact the dental pulp. A root canal can actually conserve as much of the natural tooth as possible.

If you don’t get a root canal when you need it you risk not only losing the tooth but also damaging your jawbone and other surrounding teeth. A root canal could just stop you from needing a tooth extraction down the road, which is a major boon to your oral health.

Dental Implants

If you want an artificial tooth that will function as close to natural teeth as possible and you have at least one missing tooth then dental implants could be the answer you’ve been looking for. Just by placing this small metal post into the jawbone, the artificial restoration will fuse together with natural bone and tissue in your mouth over several months. After this, you will have a permanent and formidable foundation from which to support a dental crown. Multiple implants can even be placed to support multiple artificial teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

Sometimes you are only looking to cosmetically enhance your smile without wanting to undergo invasive dentistry. Our Sun Prairie cosmetic dentist understands this sentiment, which is why we offer dental veneers. These thin tooth-colored shells are the best way to hide a multitude of dental imperfections from small chips and cracks to crooked or misshapen teeth. Veneers can give you a whole new smile in just a couple trips to our office.

UpdatingYourAppearanceDontForgetYourSmile

The world is full of options to improve your appearance. But if you really want a dramatic change for the better, don't overlook one of the more prominent features of your face — your smile. The field of cosmetic dentistry has developed a vast array of procedures, techniques and materials to work this transformation.

First, though, it's important to undergo a smile analysis. During this review, we examine the major components of your current smile: the condition of your teeth and their alignment; their natural color and hue; your gum health; and the relationship between your upper and lower jaws. We then analyze these findings in context with the shape of your face, your eyes and your skin. Any changes we propose to make to your smile must fit with this bigger picture.

Of course, nothing is more foundational to a beautiful smile than good, basic hygiene. Besides a daily regimen, regular visits to our office for cleaning and polishing not only remove entrenched decay-causing plaque or tartar, but also staining that can spoil your appearance. Whitening procedures, at home or in our office, can also brighten up an otherwise drab smile.

But what if you have chipped or broken teeth, or some other abnormality? That's where our artistry as a cosmetic dentist can truly make a difference. In some cases, using bonding materials, tooth-colored restorations or veneers may be the best option, if enough of the tooth structure is still intact. If not, porcelain crowns may be in order.

Nor are we limited to those options. Your particular situation may call for a more integrated approach to smile enhancement. Orthodontics to realign teeth and treat for malocclusion (where the teeth on the upper and lower jaws do not meet properly) could be part of that approach, as well as replacing missing teeth with dental implants that replicate the teeth they replace.

The key is to devise the best approach that couples reality with your expectations. It will change not only your smile, but also your life.
